RFID technology might find its way soon into Smart phones with Apple filing a patent for a small chip which will respond to a specific frequency radio signal by sending the phone’s identification number. The Apple iPhone 4G will have an authentication system and will also feature a RFID reader. iPhones will now be able to interact with the surroundings using RFID technology, a concept which David talks about in his book PULL in chapter 4 titled Retail Pull. Barcode readers have already entered the smart phone devices and now enabling iPhone with a RFID tag will mean that the phone can act as a payment device, identity card, security device and more.
